My friend's mother when I was growing up was a foster parent, and it was a business, her full time job. She had a nursing degree and cared for kids with severe medical issues. Quadripalegics, deaf, blind, severely retarded, whatever. Maybe they were there for a week, maybe they were there for years. Their family adopted a couple of them (one deaf, one parapalegic), but mostly it paid the bills very, very well. Would you prefer if those kids had no place to go? Perhaps a group home with undertrained staff? Perhaps staying in whatever shit situation they came from? Yeah, it can be just for the money. So what?
