Things are looking up, I've had a few interviews, one salary negotiation. I think I'll be employed sometime in March. But the UI folks sent me a letter. "You reported income the week of Feb 10 but not Feb 17. Call us and tell us the name, phone number and address of the employer." So I called. On hold FOUR HOURS. The guy says "This job you had the week of Feb 10 that paid you $180, but nothing the week of Feb 17, did you resign? I said no, I'm doing odd jobs and when I find a job, it's only a few hours to day anyway and on the week of Feb 17 I simply did not find anybody who needed anything done. He said then we need the phone number and address of the last employer. I asked why and he said "we are going to send them a form to fill out attesting to the fact that you were let go because they had no work for you to do." Uh, it was an elderly neighbor lady... He said it doesn't matter. So I asked if, in the future, I get some spare change income one week and not the next, and he said yes, you have to call us. I said it was a four hour wait on hold he said you were lucky. Geeze. I see two ways to keep unemployment from interfering with job search and/or current income: - Just don't report the income at all (tax cheat) or - Even if I earn nothing at all, report some little bit (reduces the UI, but spares me the on-hold for four hours).
